Hyposaspis Miles are seldom found on plants. They feed on  soil/growing media dwelling organisms, such as the larvae of flies, gnats, various species of mite and thrip pupae.  They're able to establish themselves in various root environmnets and growing media, such as composts and rockwool.

Hypoaspis Miles have a long life span and can survive for some time without food.  Adults can survive 3-4 weeks without food and up to approximately 6 months if food is plentiful. 

Tip - A root zone temperature of 20-24oC will keep the mites reproducing actively and a single female could lay up to 32 eggs during her life time.

There's an order of preference when different foods are presented, with sciarid fly larvae devoured first, followed by thrip larvae. 

Although only small Hypoasis Miles can consume up to 8 small sciarid fly larvae a day.
